Wyoming Retirement System Overview
The Wyoming Retirement System consists of nine separate retirement programs; the Public Employees Pension System, the Warden, Patrol and DCI System, two Paid Firefighter systems, the Volunteer Fire Pension System, Volunteer Emergency Medical Technician Pension System, the Air Guard Firefighter Pension System, the Law Enforcement Pension System and the Judicial Pension System. As of July 1, 2001, the Wyoming Deferred Compensation program is administered by the Wyoming Retirement Board.
The Wyoming Retirement System is a defined benefit program for public
employees in Wyoming. Currently the membership totals over 37,000 active
members, 17,000 retired members and approximately 16,000 inactive members.
The active membership is comprised of school district employees, University
and community college employees, state and local government employees, and
various other political subdivisions in the State.
The Wyoming Retirement System was founded as a state teacher's retirement program
in 1943, merged with state employees in 1953 and has grown to encompass all
non-federal public employees in the State. The System is administered by an
eleven-member board and a staff of 30 employees located at 6101 Yellowstone Road, Suite 500, in
Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Mission Statement
To administer the nine legislatively mandated retirement programs and the WRS 457 Deferred Compensation Program
in a professional, ethical,
economical and responsive manner, for the benefit of the 60,000
plus retirement program members, consistent with Wyoming Retirement
Board policies, all applicable laws and rules and regulations and
with the vision, philosophy, and functional goals established by
the State for the operation of State and local governments; and to
administer the legislatively mandated Social Security program in the
same professional, ethical, economical and responsive manner for
the benefit of Wyoming public employers and public employees.

Your 1099 Form from the Pension Plan was mailed to you the last week of January. If you did not receive your statement, please contact us at (307)777-7691 or email pension@state.wy.us.
Your 1099 Form from the Deferred Compensation Plan was mailed the last week of January. If you have not received your statement, please call our record-keeper in Denver at 800-701-8255.
Your Quarterly Deferred Compensation Plan Member Statement is mailed to you by our record-keeper in Denver at the end of each quarter. Read more about the information on the statement here.
The Pension Plan's Yearly Member Account Statement is mailed to you once a year, normally toward the end of February or beginning of March. Read more about the information on the statement here.
Comprehensive Annual Financial Report
The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) is published in June of each year. So, the CAFR for 2009 will be published on this page in June 2010.
