WRS and You:
Taking Charge of Your Retirement
Click here to read an analysis by the Pew Center on the States about the status of pension plans nationwide, including Wyoming's.
Wyoming is a great state with remarkable diversity, abundance and freedom. Every corner is vastly different, with mountains, prairie, dinosaur digs, volcano remains, lakes, rivers, flowers, antelope, moose, bears, cowboys, oil riggers, artists, authors and much more.
At WRS, we realize that the residents of our state are as diverse as our landscape. And we take our responsibility very seriously as we help secure the futures of more than 61,000 Wyoming residents who are part of our Pension and Deferred Compensation Plans. We celebrate our members' diversity, and our goal is to make sure each and every one of them is able to define the terms of their retirement with the same diversity, abundance and freedom that define our home state.
We hope you enjoy the photographs that we share each day on this page. They were taken by several of our members ... people who live in Cheyenne, Rock Springs, Casper, Sundance, Jackson and in so many other great communities across our state. If you would like to send us a great photo of a Wyoming setting, please email it to pension@state.wy.us.
About the Wyoming Retirement System (WRS)
Although retirement means different things to different people, the one thing that every retiree needs is money.
All of us here at the Wyoming Retirement System (WRS) are dedicated to making sure you have the information, planning tools, and retirement vehicles you need to fulfill your retirement dreams. And although the work we do is important, the most important person in your retirement planning is YOU. We're here to help, so take the time NOW to start planning for your retirement.
We offer two types of retirement benefits that work together to help you build a secure financial future:
- Pension — Once you qualify, this benefit provides a monthly income for life. WRS administers several pension systems for different groups of public employees. Most people are members of the Public Employees Pension System.
- 457 Deferred Compensation Plan — This plan helps you build your own retirement nest egg while saving money on taxes. Throughout the website, we refer to this plan as the “Deferred Compensation Plan.” Your contributions to the Deferred Compensation Plan are voluntary and do not affect your pension benefit or your contributions to the Pension System.
